Drought

Drought

My home state of South Australia is going through a very severe drought in 2025. At the end of April, we had only had just over 23mm (Not even 1 inch) of rain in Adelaide for the 2025 year to date readings. Usually we have had over 60mm by the end of March.

In May that almost doubled bringing us up to 46mm. June, with some wet periods looks like doubling that again. But at this time of year, (13/6/2025) 88mm (3.5 inches) is not a lot. Usually we are approaching 150mm.

But in the country it is even dryer. Which is not good news for the farmers. Just to show you how dry it is I am going to share a photo of one of my favourite subjects. It is of an old abandoned farmhouse near Balaklava.

I don’t know what it is but when ever I go for a drive up that way I make sure I stop off and get another photo of this beautiful rustic old home. This one above was taken in mid April 2025 wheras the one below was taken in October 2017.

But it was dry everywhere. I drove to a place I had never been to before called Rocks Reserve. The photos I had seen of it had a stream running through it. But when I got there it was dry as a bone. AND THERE WERE FLIES EVERYWHERE!

I had seen a photo of it on Trip Advisors Website and was hoping to something more like this.

I hope to travel up there later this year and see it a lot greener and hopefully some water flowing at Rocks Reserve. I will add a few mor photos of Rocks Reserve and my favourite old house.

I also found another interesting old homestead that caught my attention, south of Clare. The only problem is I didn’t mark down its coordinates and my camera doesn’t have GPS so next time I head up that was I will need to go exploring again. As I type this, there is some more rain forecasted for Adelaide. But please pray for some rain, plenty of rain, especially for our farmers.

I love my photography. I believe it all comes down to my love of nature. I live in Adelaide, Australia, and we are so blessed to live close to the sea and close to the bush. Twenty minutes to the west and you see beautiful beaches. Twenty minutes to the east and you’re walking through the bush with koala’s in the wild. Then we have the city itself with an abundance of modern and historical architecture. But I love other things. Birds, landscapes, the stars. Flowers and bees. You will see them here on my website.
