You Know when you have heard about places but never been there. Well that was me recently. I needed to pick up some camera gear from a suburb called Mitcham which is on the other side of the city to me. So I decided to have a look on Google Maps to see what was nearby.
Two Places came to my attention. They are called “Carrick Hill” and “Urrbrae House” So I went exploring and discovered that “Carrick Hill” was closed that day, so I will need to go back there another day. But I did get to go to “Urrbrae House” that sits on the Waite Campus of the University of South Australia.
I had never been there and was please with the historical architecture that was there.
Unfortunately it was a rather gloomy cloudy day and it was difficult to get a good shot of the house itself. However the camera gear I had picked up that day was a lens that allows you to get up close to objects and get a really sharp photo and blur the background to make the subject itself stand out. So I decided to do some experimenting on a rose that was in the perfect spot in front of Urrbrae House.
If you click on the slideshow and go through the 4 photos in it, you will see Urrbrae House and the plants and trees in the background grow slightly more blurrier as you progress through.
I am pretty happy with this as this is what I was going for. I look forward to experimenting further with my new toy. Another thing I love is the effects of the lights inside Urrbrae House. It is called the Bokeh Effect. In photography, bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in out-of-focus parts of an image, especially light. Now while I had not been aiming for the effect it came about, and will give me something to aim for in the future.
Now while it was a gloomy day I did get a good shot of Urrbrae House. But I needed do a fair bit of editing on it and brighten up the photo a little, cut out the grey sky and replace it with some blue sky with a few clouds. It ain’t the best looking photo but here it is.
So do what I do people and Wander, Explore and Discover those place you’ve heard of but never been to.
