When you take the camera out with you, you should be prepared for the unexpected. Be prepared to change lenses and shoot something you weren’t expecting. I recently went for a walk around The Adelaide Botanic Gardens. I had gone to simply relax and take some shots of the beautiful trees. I found myself really attracted to the archways and bamboo.

It was when I leaving the archway that something caught my eye. For a brief second I thought they were a flock of birds, but then immediately I knew what I was seeing. Bats! In the middle of the day?
I had seen these fascinating creature flying over Adelaide at dusk, during our Fringe Festival in February on hot summer nights, but never in the middle of the day. So I got closer and closer, till i was able to catch some decent shots of the flying over head.

So there you go! It is good to have a plan when you go out with the camera, but be prepared to change course and capture that picture you weren’t expecting. I didn’t go to the Botanic Gardens expecting to capture the fruit bats and look what I came home with! My motto remains: Wander – Explore – Discover!
